“Explorations – Art and Science”
Science and art are sister disciplines. The work of the scientist and artist involves exploration, discovery and method. Science has used visual means to communicate knowledge dating back to astronomical observations. Historically artists have been inspired by science and have employed scientific methods in developing materials and techniques. The exhibition shows that scientific and artistic points of view are compatible and each of the four artists uses science as the foundation for their work with a broad range of scientific disciplines represented.
Two of the artists work within a medical and anatomical context. Marti Hand explores biological science, the pharmaceutical/medical interface and its relation to health and Ann Rowles uses the deceptively benign techniques of crochet and knitting to explore disturbances of the body. Judy Parady chooses lyrical words used by particle physicists as a source for visual interpretations of the invisible in painting and three dimensional works. Mary O’Horo draws from themes found in new physics and astrophysics. These associations become translated into an abstract language which creates it own reality. This body of work offers a unique interpretation of scientific themes and an opportunity to consider the continuing influence of science in the arts. Show dates: August 5-September 2
“The Road Traveled”
“Oh the places you’ll go!” – Dr. Seuss. Our lives lead us down many roads, whether it is the one less traveled or a heavily worn path. The open road calls to some. For others, only one that matters is that road which leads home. For still others, it isn’t the physical trip through life that is important, but the creative process or spiritual journey. See how the Exhibiting Artists creatively interpret this month's theme in a wide range of mediums and disciplines.
Judges panel: Marti Hand, Mary O’Horo, Judy Parady and Ann Rowles Show Dates: August 5-September 26
